Our story
We're Grace and Richard — a husband and wife team working from a barn workshop in Dorset.
It began simply: making gifts for the people we care about. Friends asked if we'd make something for them too, and through word of mouth it grew into Dorset Custom Crafts.
We've kept it the way we like it — small, personal, and unhurried. We'd rather make one piece properly than a hundred in a rush.
Richard
Richard works with the wood, slate and machinery in the workshop. He chooses materials that feel solid and honest, and finishes every piece so it's made to last — something to be used and kept, not put in a drawer.
Grace
Grace handles the design and layout — taking your idea, a name, a message or a photo, and turning it into something considered. Nothing is made until you've seen and approved the design, so the finished piece feels right.
How we work
We treat every order as a small project. We listen to what matters to you, talk it through honestly, and only make something once it's right. That care is the whole point — and it's why most of our work comes from people we've made for before.
